Judge Curtis Sigur serves as the Division “G” Judge in the 16th Judicial District. He’s presiding over full Court dockets.
Judge Sigur was reared in Glencoe, Louisiana a rural community of Franklin, La. Judge Curtis Sigur was born on December 8, 1957 to the late Edward and Mable Sigur of Glencoe, LA (on the outskirts of Franklin, LA). Judge Curtis Sigur is married to Michele F. Sigur and they have three children Curren Tyler Sigur, Chiran TaVeer Sigur, Raven Ledet Sigur, two grandchildren, and three step-grandchildren.
Judge Curtis Sigur is a 1975 graduate of Franklin Senior High School and a 1979 graduate of the University of Southwestern Louisiana (since renamed ULL) where he earned a Bachelor of Science with Honors in Pre-Law/Economics. In 1984, he earned his Juris Doctorate’s Degree in Law (with honors) from the Southern University School of Law, and was sworn in to practice law by the Louisiana Supreme Court the same year. His legal career began as an Associate in the Law Firm of Porter and Fuselier of New Iberia, LA. He also practiced law as a staff attorney with the Acadiana Legal Service Corporation in the Social Security Unit where he specialized in Social Security Disability cases. Thereafter, he established the partnership Fuselier and Sigur Attorney-at-Law. He also became a staff attorney with the St. Mary Parish Public Defender’s Office from 1990 – 1991. In 1995, he was appointed as Assistant District Attorney by the former District Attorney, Bernard E. Boudreaux, Jr. and was re-appointed by the current District Attorney, Phil J. Haney. As an Assistant District Attorney, he has handled felonies, misdemeanors, child support, and juvenile cases as well as cases involving elderly abuse. He also served as the St. Mary Parish School Board Legal Advisor.
Judge Curtis Sigur’s professional and personal memberships include: Louisiana Supreme Court; Louisiana Bar Association; Inns of Court for the 16th Judicial District Court; United States District Court –Western Division; United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals; Board of Director of the St. Mary-Vermillion Parish Community Action Agency(past); The Imperial’s Social Club of Baldwin, Louisiana; The Diabetic Kitchen, Louisiana; and the West End Revitalization Project(past). Curtis is also a member of the St. Peter Catholic Church under Father Dismas Mauk and Deacon Clinton Thomas.
