Judge Curtis Sigur serves as the Division "G" Judge in the 16th Judicial District. He’s presiding over full Court dockets (civil, criminal, juvenile and drug court).
Judge Curtis Sigur was elected Chief Judge of the 16th Judicial District Court for the term 2017-2018.
Judge Sigur was reared in Glencoe, Louisiana a rural community of Franklin, Louisiana. Judge Curtis Sigur was born on December 8, 1957 to the lat Edward and Mable Sigur of Glencoe, Louisiana (on the outskirts of Franklin, Louisiana). Judge Curtis Sigur is married to Michele Finnie Sigur and they have three children Curren Tyler Sigur, Chiran TaVeer Sigur, Raven Ledet Sigur; five grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.
A 1975 graduate of Franklin Senior High School and a 1979 graduate of the University of Southwestern Louisiana (since renamed University of Louisiana @ Lafayette). Judge Curtis Sigur earned a Bachelor of Science with Honors in Pre-Law and a minor in Economics. In 1984, he earned his Juris Doctorate (with honors) from Southern University Law Center, and was sworn in to practice law by the Louisiana Supreme Court the same year. While attending Southern University Law Center, he was a member of the Moot Court Board, Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, Editor of the Southern University Law School’s newspaper, Who’s Who Among American Law Students and Executive Editor of the Law Review. Judge Sigur’s legal career began as an associate in the law firm of Porter and Fuselier of New Iberia, Louisiana.
He also practiced law as a staff attorney with Acadiana Legal Service Corporation in the Social Security Unit where he specialized in Social Security Disability cases. Thereafter, he established the partnership of Fuselier and Sigur Attorney-at-Law. He also became a staff attorney with the St. Mary Parish Public Defender’s Office from 1990-1991. In 1995, he was appointed as Assistant District Attorney by the former District Attorney, Bernard E. Boudreaux, Jr. and was later re- appointed by District Attorney, Phil J. Haney. As an Assistant District Attorney, he handled felonies, misdemeanors, child support, and juvenile cases as well as cases involving elderly abuse. He also served as the St. Mary Parish School Board legal advisor.
Judge Curtis Sigur’s professional and personal memberships include: Louisiana Supreme Court; Louisiana Bar Association; Inns of Court for the 16th Judicial District Court; United States District Court-Western Division; United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals; Board of Director of the St. Mary-Vermillion Parish Community Action Agency (past); The Imperial’s Social Club of Baldwin, Louisiana (past); The Diabetic Kitchen; and the West End Revitalization Project (past). Curtis is also a member of St. Peter Catholic Church.
In his spare time, Judge Sigur enjoys watching football, traveling, attending festivals, swimming, and enjoying outdoor activities.
